Come visit Spinhandspun in the Waterbury Building for this year’s Art-a-Whirl event. Sponsored by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association, Art-a-Whirl is the largest open studio and gallery tour in the United States.
This years dates are May 14th-16th, and Spinhandspun will spend the weekend in Waterbury displaying images from public guerrilla knit installations, and peddling fine wooly schwag. New items are in the works for purchase that weekend, including felted shelf fungus shelves, honeycomb neck cowls, step-by-step Lonely/Conely instructions, and a line of never-before-seen cozies. Plus, Waterbury will be hosting a herd of other great artists, as well as local bands, catering, and libations all weekend long.

JOIN SPINHANDSPUN
IN A CORNER ON THE FLOOR
ON A BLANKET BY A CHAIN LINKED FENCE
AND LEARN TO MAKE FELT,
REAL UGLY FELT,
FOR CHARITY!
This Saturday, February 13th, be a part of the first ever Twin Cities Maker Minne-Faire at the Hack Factory!
The event starts at 2pm with local makers exhibiting and playing in the group’s new space. Later, join the makers for an art show, party, and refreshments.
ADMISSION IS FREE! And maker-related prizes will be raffled all afternoon.
A sexy new mural will be up by Sat., but to quote Mike’s directions:
“The address is 3119 E 26th St, Minneapolis. It’s poorly labeled, but the front of the building says ‘Broadband America’ and there’s a large garage door. The entry for the Hack Factory is through a side door to the right of the garage door, which faces E 26th St.”
In other words, it’s located here, a few blocks east of Hexagon Bar on 26th.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
I’ll be in back, on a blanket, my work hanging behind me on a chain linked fence. Look for a mannequin bust wearing an ugly purple necklace. The uglier it is, the better…
AND YOU CAN HELP!
Learn how to make felted beads and baubles to add to the necklace throughout the day. At the end of the night, the self-proclaimed ugliest volunteer will be photographed wearing the necklace, and the photo will be submitted to Land of Odds 8th Annual Ugly Necklace Contest.
If we win, our makerly prize will be donated to Twin Cities Makers!
(Above 2007 winner Hillary Schmeichel’s necklace really does it for me, inspiration-wise…)
Hope to see you there!

Photographs taken from the 2009 Senior Art Majors Show at the Leech/Hoffmaster/Kohler Galleries, in the Wriston Art Center at Lawrence University.
The show runs from May 22nd – August 2nd, 2009, and is open with free admission to the public.
The empty fish bowl is where the “Remember Your Hands” cozies were located. All 56 cozies were removed by viewers opening night, though more are on their way. Hopefully, more participants will be sending photo submissions as time progresses!
